Hoa Phong Tower is located on the bank of Hoan Kiem lake, opposite to the Foreign office of Ha Noi P&T. The tower is a relic of Bao An pagoda – once had been a famous Buddhist architecture. In the middle of the nineteenth century, there was a big and magnificent pagoda and a lake of lotus outside. In front of the pagoda was Hoa Phong tower. The pagoda was built in 1846 under the command of Nguyen Dang Giai. In 1898, only Hoa Phong tower was left after the pagoda had been destroyed in order to broaden the street. Hoa Phong has a structure of which origin is from Stupa – a kind of Indian Buddhist tower. It has four gates and a eight-sign figure on each of the four sides of the second floor. In Oriental thought, eight-sign figure is a direction pointing device. Hoa Phong tower is an architecture presenting universal conception of Buddhism.
